چکیده

‘DALSA 1618’ (Reg. no. CV-291, PI 702594) is a first-generation intraspecific St. Augustinegrass [Stenotaphrum secundatum (Walt.) Kuntze] hybrid developed by Texas A&M AgriLife Research in Dallas, TX, from cross between drought-resistant polyploid female parent, TAES 5384 (PI 300130, GRIN National Plant Germplasm System), and semi-dwarf shade-tolerant diploid pollen donor, ‘Amerishade’. DALSA 1618 was formerly tested as ‘TAES 5896-09’ ‘TXSA-156’. Superior performance quality 2010 to 2015 space-plant nurseries across multiple environments led advancing replicated trials 10 Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) locations the southcentral southeastern United States. one of top performers 2016 NTEP (2016–2020). It established faster than ‘CitraBlue’ similarly other commercial cultivars. exhibited high turfgrass standard ancillary earlier spring greenup, which generally better ‘Floratam’. Drought resistance similar Floratam (a aneuploid). Tolerance moderately dense shade 2017 2020, where improved tolerance relative Floratam. This array environmental testing indicates possesses unique combination drought that would allow its use

Fertilization of St. Augustinegrass And Environmental Implications

climate-controlled greenhouse at the G.C.Horn turf field laboratory at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Floratam St.Augustinegrass is being compared with a mix of ornamentals including canna, nandina, ligustrum and allamanda. Plant material is growing in 80-gallon plastic pots in an Arredondo fine sand. There are three fertilizer treatments (16-4-8 quick-release, 15-0-15 quick-release,...

Morphological mutants of St. Augustinegrass induced by gamma ray irradiation

St. Augustinegrass is a widely used turf and pasture grass in the southern US. Raleigh is a cultivar known for superior cold tolerance than other St. Augustinegrass cultivars. However, its coarse-leaf texture and long internodes are undesirable when planted in home lawns. Mutagenesis by gamma ray irradiation was employed to treat node cuttings and calli for inducing semi-dwarf growth phenotype....

Dynamics of Belonolaimus longicaudatus Parasitism on a Susceptible St. Augustinegrass Host.

St. Augustinegrass (Stenotaphrum secundatum) cv FX-313 was used as a model laboratory host for monitoring population growth of the sting nematode, Belonolaimus longicaudatus, and for quantifying the effects of sting nematode parasitism on host performance in two samples of autoclaved native Margate fine sand with contrasting amounts of organic matter (OM = 7.9% and 3.8%). Following inoculation ...

Improved plant regeneration and in vitro somatic embryogenesis of St Augustinegrass [Stenotaphrum secundatum (Walt.) Kuntze]

St Augustinegrass [Stenotaphrum secundatum (Walt.) Kuntze] is an important warm season turf and pasture grass. In vitro tissue culture of St Augustinegrass could serve as an important mean for its improvement through genetic transformation as well as induced somaclonal variation. To optimize tissue culture conditions for plant regeneration of St Augustinegrass, tissue culture responses of 11 ex...

Selection for freezing tolerance in St. Augustinegrass through somaclonal variation and germplasm evaluation

St. Augustinegrass [Stenotaphrum secundatum (Walt.) Kuntze] is the least cold-hardy turfgrass species. Development of freezing-tolerant St. Augustinegrass cultivars would greatly benefit home owners in many southern states of the US. Towards this breeding goal, 7800 plants regenerated through tissue culture and 36 germplasm accessions were screened for improved freezing tolerance. Among the con...
